3500 Engineering students from 35 countries around the globe descended on Silverstone to compete in the Institute of Mechanical Engineering's Formula Student competition. University teams pit their designs against each other in a variety of events, incuding sprint and endurance races. Before the event, we caught up with the BCU racing team to document the challenge they faced.
Formula student is more than just building a fast car. Entrants are also judged on the rationale behind their design, which includes cost, viability and sustainability. It is a steep learning curve for the fledgling engineers as they strive to develop their skills.
